Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC) is always keen to participate by research and technical studies in national, regional and international conferences concerning with electrical engineering. These conferences provide an excellent forum for engineers to exchange new ideas and information on the latest scientific developments and advanced technical applications in the field of electrical engineering.Engineer Ali Al Hadabi, OETC General Manager, said that the company encourages the engineers and all employees to participate in such conferences with the objective of promoting and updating knowledge of OETC staff. Certainly, this leads to continue improving transmission system performance and quality of electricity supply to cope with the development plan in the Sultanate of Oman.Recently, OETC has participated in the International Conference on “Energy and Sustainable Development” held in Thailand by presenting a technical paper entitled “Performance of Oman Transmission System with Distributed Generation.” The paper was presented by Hisham Al Riyami, OETC System Studies Engineer. The studies have shown the benefits in improving the transmission system performance by installing the distributed generation at 33kV busbars of grid stations in 5 locations. The objective of installing these distributed generating units is to aid in meeting the peak demand in summer 2010.
The conference was organized by the Asian Institute of Technology and a number of scientific organizations. It was technically co-sponsored by various international engineering institutions such as the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers known as IEEE. The organizing committee of the conference has selected Eng. Hisham Al Riyami to chair a technical session on “Wind Energy Development” in the conference. Six technical papers were presented in this session concerning advanced schemes of wind energy conversion to produce electricity. More than 650 researches from different countries attended the conference which included presentation of 80 papers. The participants came from the USA, France, Australia, India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan and Sultanate of Oman.
